Beat the Goliad Tigers, 29-20

ORANGE GROVE - The Orange Grove Bulldogs (4-1) brought the community a homecoming victory Friday night as they beat the Goliad Tigers 29-20.

The Bulldogs came out strong in the first quarter, with a breakout 62-yard run by Jonathan Rodriguez in the first minute and a half for a touchdown.

The subsequent two points put up Orange Grove early at 8-0. It was the first of two Rodriguez TDs for the night.

Goliad made a play for their own TD midway through the first in a two and 12 situation, 20 yards from the end zone.

Although their TD was good, the two-point attempt failed.

Orange Grove ate up the rest of the quarter, and the first part of the second quarter attempting to get into scoring range.

In a third and one position, with eight minutes left in the second, Jose Martinez found some daylight and ran for 44 yards for a TD, bringing Orange Grove up to 15-6.

Martinez put up 126 yards for the Bulldogs Friday night. Goliad turned around to eat up four minutes on the clock, making their way down field over four first downs, leading to a quarterback keeper by Luke Brinkman at the three -yard line for the TD. An additional two points brought Goliad closer, at 15-14.

Martinez made a big play towards the end of the half, running 38 yards and placing the Bulldogs in a good position.

Rodriguez then made some important runs to help bring the team to within a handful of yards, while quarterback Jordan Salas brought it home with a short QB keeper into the endzone with 47 seconds left in the half.

Time ran out on Goliad, who were able to make two first downs in 41 seconds, but unable to get close to the end zone.

Late in the third quarter, Brinkman came back again for a short one-yard run and the TD, closing the gap with the Bulldogs, 22-20.

It was trhe closest Goliad would see for the remainder of the night. In the fourth, Rodriguez came back for his second TD, a 13-yard run, followed by a Collin DeLaune kick, securing a 29-20 lead for Orange Grove.

The Bulldogs held the Tigers back for the rest of the quarter, leading to a victory for the night.
