The Calallen Lady Wildcat basketball team beat the Moody Lady Trojans 54-52 Saturday afternoon at the Moody High School gym.

The Lady Cats won in impressive fashion after going into halftime with a 27-11 deficit.

"I have no words to explain this victory," said Calallen head coach Beverly Barker. "I don't know how we got this win."

The Lady Cats' Amanda Haven was the leading scorer of the game with 18 points. She also had six rebounds and eight steals.

Dina Rodriguez also had a banner day for Calallen with 11 points-10 of them scored in the fourth quarter

Despite those two putting forth solid efforts, it was a three-point shot from senior Alyssa Pimmental that won the game for the Lady Cats with 6.9 seconds left in the game.

Moody started off fast as sophomore Yessenia Garcia snared four rebounds and two steals in the first quarter, leading up to 12-5 lead for the Lady Trojans.

Calallen also endured foul trouble, sending Moody to the free throw line for bonus free throw shots in the first quarter.

Moody pulled farther away, outscoring the Lady Cats 15-6 in the second quarter.

"I just told them that we needed to step it up," Barker said. "My starters did not show up ready to play in the first half and they were able to turn it around."

The third quarter saw a different Calallen team as the Lady Cats began the third quarter with an 11-0 run that quickly put the Lady Trojan lead in jeopardy.

With 1:27 left in the third, Calallen scored a bucket, tying the game 31-31.

Moody was up after the third quarter, but not by much as the Lady Trojans had a slight 38-35 lead.

Calallen played Beeville Tuesday night and will spend the weekend in Floresville for a tournament.

"This year our team has a better attitude and they are working hard," Barker said. "We just need to work on our consistency and play every minute of the game."

The Lady Cats' next home game will be against the Corpus Christi King Mustangs Dec. 4 at 8 p.m.
