Alice American and National playing Monday

And suddenly there are two… two unbeaten teams that is.

One won in grand fashion and the other held on for a one-run win Friday night, but either way, the Alice American and Alice National League all-stars are the only unbeaten teams left in the District 22 Little League tournament at Alice's Bobby Cuellar Park.

Moreover, the two teams are set to go head-to-head in the semifinal round at 8 p.m. Monday.

Alice American advanced by beating previously unbeaten Bishop-Driscoll, 10-4. Alice won the game with a six-run third-inning rally led by a solo-home run by Juan Gonzalez, who went 3-for-4 in the game.

With Bishop-Driscoll down, the Alice team put the game out of reach with four more runs in the fifth.

Alice National's victory was more of a thriller. Alice held off a sixth-inning surge to beat Freer, 10-9.

It was Freer who went ahead first with six runs in the fourth inning, but Alice answered with six runs in the fifth. In the sixth, Freer left a potential game-tying run stranded at second.

Oscar Resendez, who started the game on the mound, led the team by going 3-for-4.
