San Diego's girls were right at home in the San Diego Brush Country Classic powerlifting meet Saturday.

The girls won eight of the 11 weight classes in the meet.

Junelle Vasquez won the 97-pound wieght class with a total of 560 pounds. She dominated her class with a squat of 225 pounds, a bench press of 100 pounds and a dead lift of 245. Spring Garza won the 105-pound class with a total of 485 and Marrissa Saenz had a total of 550 to win the 132-pound class.

Dayna Garcia totaled 755 pounds to win the 148-pound division and Monique Solis won the 181-pound division with a toal of 825, with included a 170-pound bench press.

Alyssa Perales had some big lifts to win the 198-pound weight class with an 870 total. She had a squat of 380, bench pressed 165 and had a 325-pound dead lift.

Tiffanie Cantu won the 220-pound class with a total of 830 and Natalie Luna won the over-220 pound class with a total of 1,130 pounds. Luna had a 500-pound squad, a 220-pound bench press and a dead lift of 410 pounds.

The girls from Ben Bolt-Palito Blanco High School also had a good meet. Krystal De Leon took second in the 114-pound weight class with a 315-pound total and Gloria Gutierrez was second in the 123-pound class with a total of 550.

Orange Grove had girls place in the meet. Desirea Persinger placed fourth in the 123-pound weight class and Erika Pena placed fifth in the 181-pound class.

In the boys' division, the Vaqueros held their own against a competitive field which included many 4A and 3A lifters.

Gilbert Sanchez took second-place honors in the 114-pound weight class with an 850-pound total. Sanchez led all lifters in his weight class with a 315-pound squat. Luis Lopez also placed second in the 198-pound class with a 1,145-pound total. In the 242-pound weight class, Frank Trevino placed third for San Diego with a total of 1,150 pounds.

Mario Alaniz placed fourth with a total 1,175.

Alice's boys placed in several weight classes. Senior Justin Garcia won the 181-pound weight class with a total of 1,305. Teammate Jesus Espinoza was second and just five pounds behind with a total of 1,300. Espinoza had a 520-pound squat and a 505-pound dead lift, but Garcia topped his total behind a 305-pound bench press. Alice's Jacob Castillo was third in the weight class with a total of 1,130.

Marco Balboa was fourth in the 198-pound class with a total of 1,025 and Esteban Resendez was fourth in the 242-pound weight class.

Orange Grove had a couple of first-place finishers. Robert Chapa won the 114-pound weight class with a total of 850 pounds and Oscar Ortiz won the super heavyweight class with a total of 1,240 pounds. Ortiz had a 315-pound bench press and a 500-pound squat. Teammate J.J. Galvan was second in the class with a total of 1,225.

In the 132-pound class, Richard Brown was third with a 850-pound total. Kelton Craven was fourth in the 165-pound class with a total of 1,040.

In th 220-pound class, Oscar I. Ortiz placed second with a total of 1,235 and Luis Monsevias was third with a total of 1,115.
