Playing with its young and inexperienced team, the Alice Lady Coyotes struggled on the first day of the new volleyball season, losing back-to-back games to Falfurrias and then Corpus Christi Ray.

The tri-match was played at Corpus Christi Ray High School. Alice began the contest losing to Falfurrias in straight games, 19-25 and 16-25. Marissa Liguez led Alice with five aces. Melanie Menchaca had one ace. Elyssa Manrique had three digs and Kim Rea had two. The team finished the two games with 17 kills.

Alice then lost to Ray in straight games, 14-25 and 7-25. Rea had three kills and Felisha Salinas had two. Christal Zarate had two assists and Danielle Greenup and Menchaca each had two digs.

"We're playing with a lot of sophomores right now," Alice coach Kim Paisley said. "We're just very young."

The Lady Coyotes will play in the Wimberly High School tournament beginning Friday.
