Coyotes drop from No. 53 a week ago to No. 66 this week

Pete Garcia, Alice Echo-News Journal

Nothing can drop a team's Harris Rating more than an unexpected loss. For an example of that, look at the Alice Coyotes and Orange Grove Bulldogs in this week's ratings.

After losses Friday night, both teams saw their stock plummet in the Week 4 ratings.

The Coyotes, who moved up to No. 53 in Class 4A after beginning the season 3-0, fell 13 spots after a close 37-34 loss to Gregory-Portland Friday night.

The Coyotes remained among the area's highest-rated Class 4A teams, but now Gregory-Portland moved just in front of them at No. 61 from No. 64 last week.

Alice is taking on No. 161 Rockport-Fulton Friday night. Gregory-Portland is facing Calallen, who is No. 9.

In Class 3A, the Orange Grove Bulldogs dropped an 18-7 decision to the Hebbronville Longhorns Friday night.

Orange Grove was the area's second-highest rated team at 76 a week ago, but fell to No. 88 on this week's ratings following the disappointing loss.
