Playing against Aransas Pass Wednesday night because of last week’s cancellations due to Hurricane Ike, the Alice junior varsity football team came up with a 20-12-victory.

The second half of the game opened with an eight-yard touchdown run by Jesse Rios. Aransas Pass answered on their ensuing drive to tie the game.

Alice again mounted a long drive which was capped off by a seven-yard run by quarterback Alex Ponce. Ponce then took the ball in for two points.

After Aransas Pass scored again, Alice finished the game with a drive that ended with a five-yard touchdown run by Steve Villarreal. Zach Garcia and Logan Lopez led the Alice defense. The Alice junior varsity is now 1-2 and hosts Calallen Thursday night.

•  The Alice freshman football team captured a big 24-0 shutout victory over Aransas?Pass Wednesday.

With its offense coming up short in their first two possessions, the Alice defense finally set the offense up with a scoring opportunity in the second quarter. The defense pinned Aransas?Pass back at their own 10-yard line. Michael Arredondo then plowed through the defense for a touchdown. That and Cody Perez’s two-point conversion gave Alice an 8-0 lead.

With the defense still playing strong the remainder of the game, Alice continued to score. Justin Ruiz scored on a four-yard run and Arredondo added two points. Arredondo later scored the Coyotes’ final touchdown on a one-yard run. A.J. Perez added the two-point conversion.

Alice hosts Calallen Thursday night in Memorial Stadium.

• The Alice William Adams Middle School eighth grade Orange team tied Four Bluff Wednesday, 14-14.

Leo Adams accounted for all of Alice’s scoring. He scored on a 65-yard run and then later on a five-yard run. He also scored on a two-point conversion.

• The WAMS?White team lost to Flour Bluff, 14-6. Luiz Perez scored the team’s only points on a thrlling 40-yard run.
