San Diego and Ben Bolt teams eliminated

The rain stayed away just long enough Thursday for two teams to advance and for two teams to be eliminated from the District 22 Little League tournament.

Kingsville American and Falfurrias were the two teams which advanced up through the losers' bracket, while the all-star season ended for Benavides and Ben Bolt.

In the first game Thursday, Kingsville American looked strong by beating Benavides, 19-3. Scotty Boone led the Kingsville all-stars by going 5-for-5, including a homerun. Michael Guerra also had a home run.

For Benavides, shortstop David Cavazos had an impressive performance, going 3-for-3.

Falfurrias advanced with a come-from-behind victory against Ben Bolt. The Ben Bolt all-stars led 4-3 after two innings, but Falfurrias scored eight unanswered runs between the third and the fifth innings.

For Falfurrias, Giam Trevino went 3-for-4 and William Smith and John Gonzalez each had two hits. Ben Bolt was led at the plate by Gabriel Ramirez, who went 2-for-3.

Today's games will feature both of Alice's all-star teams.

In the first game, Alice American will take on Bishop-Driscoll. Alice National and Freer will follow. Saturday's games will pit Hebbronville against Premont and Kingsville American against Falfurrias.
