When it came time for Hannah Martinez to pick a college to continue her running career, the 2018 Alice High School graduate said she was selecting Texas Lutheran University in Seguin in part because she felt it would allow her to contribute to the program immediately.

She was right.

Only midway through the Div. III college cross country season, Martinez is a key part of the TLU women’s team. On Saturday, she turned in the team’s best time at the Concordia Invitational at the Walter E. Long Park in Austin. Martinez led the women’s team by placing 22nd with a time of 25:58.76 over the 6K course.

At the Our Lady of the Lake Collegiate Invitational two weeks ago, Martinez had a top 20 finish by placing 20th with a time of 21:20.10 in the 5K race.

Martinez began the season by helping TLU with a 14th place finish at the Trinity University’s Alamo City Opener in San Antonio in August.

Martinez was a four-year letterman in cross county and track at Alice High School. She was a regional qualifier in cross country in three of her four years. She was also a versatile runner in track running everything from middle distance to sprints and relays.

Martinez and her TLU teammates are running at the University of the Incarnate Word Invitational at Live Oak Park in Live Oak.
