SAN DIEGO — It took about two quarters, but the San Diego Vaqueros figured out Ingleside for what turned into a 36-14 victory Friday night.

The Vaqueros led 7-0 at halftime, but scored 29 points in the second half. Ingleside closed the gap by scoring twice in the final minute.

It was a solid night for quarterback Ryan Ochoa, who completed eight of 16 passes for 140 yards. Ochoa’s longest pass was a 66-yard touchdown strike to Sergio Guerra. Ochoa also ran the ball 33 times for 124 yards.

Running back Anthony Perez had 18 carries for 100 yards. Vince Lueveno had three catches for 44 yards and a touchdown.

Guerra, who was an all-state defensive back last year as a freshman, led the defense with two interceptions. R.J. Ramirez also had an interception.

Coach Bo Ochoa said he was proud of the way his team played in their first game of the season.

“It’s always good to start the season off with a win,” he said. “It was a tight game at first. We were ahead only 7-0 at halftime, but we were able to make adjustments in the second half.”

San Diego is playing Hebbronville next Friday.
