Alice High School’s cross country runners competed in a different take on long distance running Saturday morning at West Guth Park in Corpus Christi.

Alice participated in the Moody Trojan 2-Man Relay early Saturday at West Guth Park, and several teams placed. Each runner in each two-person team had to run two individual miles to complete the relay.

The team of Tania Lillich and Jackie Villarreal placed third with a time of 26.09 in the Gold Girls Division. The team of Samuel Salinas and Patrick Saenz was seventh with a time of 21.32 in the Gold Boys Division.

The team of Rita Castillo and Samantha Pierce was first in the Silver Girls Division. Alaura Cantu and Aliyah Garrido were seventh and Paris Chalfont and Ashley Arellano were 10th.

In the Silver Boys Division, Rolando Pena and Fernando Castillo were third and Jordan Perez and Lupe Garcia were fourth. Francisco Castillo and Aiden Salinas were sixth and Angel Perez and Julian Garcia were seventh.

Alice cross country coach Marissa Acosta said she was impressed with the same her team competed.

“The kids competed really great today,” Acosta said. “It was exciting. It was a much different race than what they are used to, so I know they were nervous and excited to race. It was a four-mile two-man relay where they exchanged every mile. We dominated the Silver Divisions, and it was a pretty big meet. We are young this year and still have a lot to work on to competitively race a 5k, but I’m happy with today.”
