For the first part of the Alice Lady Coyotes’ run-in with the Refugio Lady Bobcats, things looked promising for the home team.

Alice was hosting Refugio for their first home game of the new season at Alice High School.

The Lady Coyotes had the early momentum and catching the Refugio girls out of position and seemingly out of sync. It paid off in the forms of a 25-20 victory in Game 1.

Refugio calmed down and played much more composed after the first game, and it was too much for Alice. The Lady Bobcats won the next three hard-fought match-ups, 25-14, 25-19 and 25-23.

Sabrina Cantu led Alice in kills with five. Jackie Guerra had four and Mireya Villarreal had three. Samantha Hinojosa had six assists and Noriah Pena had five. Katelyn Hernandez had four blocks and Villarreal had three.

Kaitlin Rea had 16 digs. Meghan Molina had seven and Emilie Pawelek had six.

The Lady Coyotes are back in action Friday and Saturday at the Sinton tournament.

Alice’s next home game is Tuesday against Woodsboro.
