The Alice High School cross country team began the new season with a handful of medals Friday morning.

The Alice runners medaled on the boys and girls side of the Gregory-Portland Wildcats Cross Country Meet which was held at the Gregory-Portland Sports Complex.

Junior Samuel Salinas placed ninth in the varsity boys division with a time of 14:27 in the two and a half mile race. Junior Patrick Saenz and senior Rolando Pena also competed in the varsity boys’ race. Saenz had a time of 14:47 and Pena had a time of 15:43.

Jackie Villarreal was 11th with a time of 17:59 in the varsity girls division. Tania Lillich was 12th with a time of 18:02.

The cross country team is competing the inaugural Border Olympics Cross Country Meet at the Casa Blanca Golf Course next Saturday.
