Kingsville, Texas - Inclement weather could not dampen the spirits of the Texas A&M-Kingsville football program on Monday as head coach Daren Wilkinson had his team on the field at Javelina Stadium late into the evening for the first fall practice of the 2018 campaign.

"What separated today's practice from the past," said Wilkinson, "was that our guys were dialed in on their assignments. It's easy to get excited when it's the first time you practice as a team, but everybody took to the challenge of focusing on what they needed to do.

"Then we finished practice with a conditioning test that everybody passed. So we're excited about that and how the team took to heart the challenge we set out to them before we left for the summer where they needed to come back in shape to have a chance. They showed they're ready for it and I'm excited."

The Hogs will have practice sessions during the week open to the public starting at 2:30 p.m., weather permitting, with an intrasquad scrimmage set for this Saturday at Javelina Stadium at 10 a.m.

The first game of 2018 for the Blue and Gold is set for August 30 in Commerce, Texas, as 2017 NCAA National Champion A&M-Commerce will play host to the Javelinas for the Thursday night showdown. The first home contest in Kingsville will be September 8 when TAMUK squares off with Texas Wesleyan at 7 p.m. for the Hall of Fame & Champions Weekend sponsored by Pepsi.
