With the way the high school volleyball preseason is this season, the first days are fast.
At Alice High School that means the volleyball program is having tryouts Wednesday morning, naming the girls who make the team Wednesday afternoon, a morning and afternoon practice on Thursday and the team’s first scrimmage on Friday. That’s how quickly things progress in Texas high school volleyball.
“With the way things are set up, we don’t have a lot of time.” Alice High School volleyball coach Andrea Rodriguez said. “We start and we’re playing right away.”
In fact, the first game of the season comes just one week after the first practice. Alice is beginning its season next Wednesday on the road against H.M. King.
Alice High School’s first day of volleyball is Wednesday. The day begins with physical checks at 7:30 a.m. The high school program is having a tryout session and practice from 8 to 10 a.m. Freshmen girls will have an additional workout and practice session from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Team rosters will be announced at noon. The program then had conditioning and a practice Wednesday afternoon.
Alice has a two-a-day practice Thursday and a parent meeting at 5 p.m. that day.
The Lady Coyotes are then playing in a multi-team scrimmage Friday at Alice High School. The team had a scrimmage Saturday in Robstown.
