The Alice Little League Softball all-stars are still unbeaten this summer, and their latest victory earned the team a trip to the Texas West state tournament in Abilene later this week.

The team of 12-year-old girls advanced by beating Mercedes, 3-0, in the Little League division tournament in Corpus Christi Saturday night.

Alice began the game with an in-the-park home run by Ava Hernandez in the first inning. Alice struck again in the second with a stand-up triple by Kaylie Barrera and an RBI by Stephanie Salinas. Barrera padded Alice’s lead in the fifth with an in-the-park home run.

Hernandez was solid for Alice from the pitcher’s circle. She struck out 12. Alice’s defense was solid behind.

The Alice all-star team is a perfect 5-0 through the District 22 and sectionals tournament. In those five games, Alice has outscored its opponents, 58-11.

The Alice team includes Daniella Benavides, Alyssa Rivera, Donika Medrano, DeeAndra Maldonado, Cristela Trevino, Dana Solis, Ava Hernandez, Kaylie Barrera, Victoria Diaz, Brooke Castillo, Isabella Perales, Neveah Diaz and Stephanie Salinas.
