It took the Alice Little League softball all-stars only two games over two nights in Hebbronville to win the District 22 championship.

The team of 12-and under softball all-stars closed out the tournament Sunday night in Hebbronville. Only Alice and Hebbronville were in the district tournament. Alice won the first game, 16-1, Saturday night. They won the second game, 8-5, Sunday.

Ava Hernandez was the winning pitcher in the first game. She pitched the enter two-and-a half-inning game.

Hernandez also had a hand in the second game. Brooke Castillo started the game and was relieved by Hernandez

Alice trailed 3-0 until the second inning when Hernandez hit an in-the-park home run to get on the scoreboard. The Alice girls then rallied in the fourth inning to take the lead.

In the two games, Alice’s pitchers accounted for 19 strikeouts. At the plate, Alice had a total of 24 hits.

The team’s head coach is Mark Hernandez and assistant coaches are April Barrera and Manuel Perales.
