KINGSVILLE — The fate of the San Diego Lady Vaqueros softball season came down to one pitch in the bottom of the 10th inning.

Tied 6-6 with the Bishop Lady Badgers in Game 2 of the best-of-three playoff series.

With runners on and no outs, Brianna Munoz hit a fly which scored Marlena Martinez and gave San Diego the win.

The series concludes with the deciding Game 3 at 7 p.m.Saturday at TAMUK.

The bottom of the 10th inning began with a Martinez single. Zaliegh Perez followed with a single. Leandra Bazan reached on a fielder’s choice. That set up the winning hit by Munoz.

Bazan led San Diego by going 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Martinez and Perez had a pair of hits each.

Bishop won Game 1 of the series Thursday night by taking advantage of an off-night by the Lady Vaqueros. Bishop won, 11-3.

San Diego scored only two runs in the first inning and one in the fifth in the eight-run loss. The Lady Vaqueros accounted for seven hits, but were tagged with an uncharacteristic five errors in the seven-inning game. Senior Marlena Martinez started for San Diego. She was relieved after Bishop scored four in the first inning and three in the second. Lianna Vela led San Diego by going 2-for-4.
