SAN ANTONIO — The Alice Coyotes relay teams have used different combinations of runners this season, and they’ve had success each time.
The combination used at the preliminaries of the Region IV-5A track and field meet early Friday wasn’t any different. In fact, it was among the fastest relay teams Alice High School has ever put together.
The team of seniors Sean Molina, Orlando Espinoza, junior Sean Chapa and sophomore Weston Moore set a new Alice High School record in the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:29.03. They reached the finals in the event and are going into tomorrow’s deciding race in third place. The top two finishers in the finals advance to the UIL state meet.
The same group of boys also reached the finals in the 400-meter relay with a time of 42.93. The team is sitting in fifth place going into the finals.
The meet is continuing through Friday. Running event preliminaries are followed by field events this afternoon.
