Alice ISD’s youngest athletes will go head-to-head in a slate of athletic events ranging from running to the sack race for younger students to sprints and relays for other students in the upcoming Little Olympics and Junior Olympics.

The annual athletic competitions between all of the school district’s elementary and intermediate schools are planned for the end of April and beginning of May.

The Junior Olympics is set for Monday, April 30 in Memorial Stadium. The contest matches athletes from Dubose and Memorial Intermediate School. The events include both fifth graders and sixth graders.

The school district’s Little Olympics are set for May 3 at Memorial Stadium. It includes students from kindergarten to the fourth grade from Hillcrest, Mary R. Garcia, Salazar, Noonan, Saenz and Schallert. The kindergarten to fourth grade students compete is a series of events from short races to sack races to ball throws, jumps, sprints and relays.

The Junior Olympics are expected to include some 300 young athletes and the Little Olympics is expected to include about 700. The Little Olympics is now in its 41st year.

All money raised through the concession stands and from the $1 programs at the games goes the operation of both events.
