PORTLAND — The final day of the District 30-5A track and field meet was a good one for the Alice High School athletic program.

Alice captured much of the attention with senior Criselda Cruz sweeping the hurdles and finishing the meet as the girls’ top scorer and the Alice boys winning gold medals in two relays.

A day after winning the high jump and triple jump, Cruz won the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. She also ran a leg in Alice’s 1,600-meter relay.

Gabriela Lainez placed fourth in the 200-meter run.

The boys won the 400-meter relay with Sean Molina, Sean Chapa, Jose Salinas and Weston Moore. They had a time of 43.28 to edge Veterans Memorial, Ray, Flour Bluff, Calallen and Gregory-Portland, which all finished within three-quarters of a second from each other.

The Alice boys also won the 800-meter relay.

Individually, Molina was second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.41.

Matthew Lara advanced to the area meet by placing fourth in the 800-meter run. Mark Salinas was fourth in the 300-meter hurdles and Jeremiah Gonzalez was fourth in the 200-meter dash.

The top four finishers in each event advance to the area meet on April 20 in Floresville.
