District 30-5A is retaining its reputation as one of the toughest districts in Texas when it comes to high school baseball.

In the Texas High School Baseball Class 5A Preseason Top 20 Poll, the district has two teams ranked and one on the verge of being ranked.

Corpus Christi Moody is ranked No. 7 in Class 5A. The Trojans are returning four starters from last year’s 30-3-3 state semifinalist team.

Crosstown rival Corpus Christi Ray is ranked 13. The Texans have eight starters from the 27-9 regional finalist team.

Calallen isn’t ranked, they are listed under the poll’s Next 10.

4. Mansfield Legacy Broncos – Returns 8 starters from the 29-12 Regional Finalist team, including Ryan Hill, 12, SS/P (11-2, 1.54ERA) and Nate Rombach, 11, C (.423,8HR/TTU)

5. Port Neches-Groves Indians – Returning 6 starters from the 2017 State Champions, including Josh Hranicky, 12, LHP (11-2, 1.92ERA/Lamar) and Austin Bost, 12, 3B (.366, 14 2B/Panola)

6. College Station Cougars – Returns 6 starters from last year’s 22-8 Area Finalist squad, including top 3 pitchers led by Travis Hester, 12, P (9-1/Arkansas) and Bryson Lucas, 11, P (4-1/TCU)
