Some of the members of the 2017 Alice High School Coyote football team were at the last Alice ISD board of trustee meeting as the school board recognized the team for its successful season.
After not reaching the state playoffs since 2013, this year’s squad earned a postseason spot by placing second in 30-5A’s North Zone and then beat Moody for a playoff berth.
The Coyotes then won a bi-district championship by beating Floresville. They won an area championship by beating Mission Sharyland. Alice reached the Class 5A, Div. II quarterfinals where they fell to Austin McCallum in the San Antonio Alamodome.
In their first year under coach Kyle Atwood, the Coyotes were 9-4.
