CALALLEN — The Laredo United Longhorns came into the Christmas Classic basketball tournament at Calallen High School as one of the teams to watch, and when they began the tournament Thursday against Alice, they looked the part.

The Longhorns, wearing their trademark white and bright orange uniforms, held the Coyotes to two three-point quarters on their one to a lopsided 57-24 victory.

Alice was limited to only three in the first quarter and three in the third. Meanwhile, United used to slow start to jump out to a 46-19 lead going into the fourth period.

United scored 20 in the first and 15 in the third.

The Coyotes ended the day with a game against Salado, which lost in the opening round to Orange Grove.

The Alice girls were also playing in their final tournament of the season at the 4th Annual Roy Williams Holiday Tournament at West Oso High School.

The girls began pool play Wednesday with a 57-27 victory against Jubilee Academy and a 50-25 loss to Dripping Springs.

Alice returned to West Oso to face Sam Rayburn Thursday.
