Alice High School cross country coach Marissa Acosta tried really hard to get a meet for her team to run on Saturday.

The team was supposed to run at the McNeil Invitational in Round Rock Saturday morning, but that meet was called off because of bad weather. She tried the Calallen Wildcats Invitational, but that meet too was canceled because of six inches of rain on Friday.

When all hope seemed lost, Alice found a meet at Benavides High School.

With Alice’s top male runner, Matthew Lara, still out because of injury, the Coyotes were second in the medium schools division. The Alice girls were also second. Both Alice junior varsity teams won their divisions.

The Alice boys had medial winners in Sammy Salinas who was second with a time of 17:07, and Xavier Longoria, who was 9th with a time of 17:49.

Senior Hannah Martinez was second with a time of 12:59 and sophomore Tania Lillich was third with a time of 13:15.
