The Alice High School cross country team continues its string of solid outings this season.

The Alice boys won their division at the Beeville-Skidmore Invitational Meet, while the Alice girls were second in their division.

The Alice varsity boys were first overall. Leading the team was senior Matthew Lara, who finished his 5k run in a time of 17:04. He earned another gold medal in the meet. Sophomore Samuel Salinas had an impressive second place finish with a time of 18:08. Senior Xavier Longoria placed seventh with a time of 18:17. Senior Matteo Karstedt placed 10th with an 18:20 and sophomore Fernando Castillo placed 29th with a time of20:24. Behind Alice in the boys’ team results were Calhoun with 46 points, King with 78, Moody with 82, Calallen with 92, Victoria West with 147 and Victoria East.

Leading the Alice girls was Criselda Cruz, who finished her 5k in a time of 21.54. She placed fourth. Sophomore Tania Lillich finished in seventh with a time of 22:05. Senior Jasmine Pina finished 10th with a time of 22:50 and freshman Jacqueline Villarreal was 12th with a time of 23:09. Freshman Aliyah Garrido was 16th in a time of 24:09. Senior Kaity Buentello was 17th in a time of 24:14 and senior Xenia Garcia was 18th in a time of 24:57.

First in the team standing was Carroll with 18 points. Alice was second with 38.

Alice had a pair of girls place in the junior varsity division. Freshmen Alaura Cantu was first out of 65 girls with a time of 14.44 in a 2.1-mile run. Freshmen Ashley Arellano placed 11th with a time of 15:43. The Alice JV girls placed fourth overall.

The Alice junior varsity boys were first in their division. The Alice junior varsity boys’ medalists were Patrick Saenz, fourth; Julian Garcia, seventh; Angel Perez, eighth; and Henry Gonzalez, 12th.
