SAN DIEGO — The Vaqueros notched their first victory of the season on their night out.

San Diego beat Zapata in three games Wednesday, 25-12, 25-15, 25-22.

Leandra Bazan had eight kills and Pearl Garcia had three. Andrea Jimenez and Alex Gonzalez had two.

Alexia Rivera had 12 assists. Bazan had two aces and a block and Kady Rios had an ace and seven digs.

The Alice Lady Coyotes’ first round game of the season ended in a loss.

District 30-5A foe Calallen defeated Alice in three-straight games, 25-7, 25-15 and 25-17.

Kathleen Hernandez led Alice in kills with four. Meagan Lopez had two. Alysso Lazo had three assists. Hannah Martinez led Alice with two aces. Gabby Canales had blocks and Sarina Cantu had eight. Canales led the team in blocks with three.

The Lady Coyotes dropped to 0-2 for the season, while Calallen improved to 1-1.

Alice is playing in the McDonald’s Spikiest in Corpus Christi beginning Friday. Alice is beginning the tournament with pool games at Ray High School against San Marcos, Victoria East and Carroll.
