The Alice Little League Softball all-stars are getting another crack at Lake Air at the Texas West Little League state tournament in Abilene.

The Alice girls began the tournament early Saturday with a 9-3 loss to Lake Air. It was a loss fueled by missed scoring opportunities and a handful of errors.

Alice bounced back by beating Idalou in an elimination game Sunday evening. Alice trailed early, but came back and won, 4-3.

An errant throw early in the game cost Alice two runs. Alice scored on in the second when Paige Short scored on a passed ball.

Alice trailed by as much as 3-1, but they hung around until the bottom of the sixth inning when they tied the game, 3-3, on a hits by Merigrace Cantu and Stephanie Salinas.

In extra innings, the Alice all-stars made their move when Zalexis Perez laid down bunt to get onboard as the potential game-winning run. Later in the inning, Jackie Molina drew a walk with two outs. She stole second and Alice scored on a bad throw by Idalou.

Alice is playing Lake Air in the tournament’s semifinal round at 7 p.m. The winner moves on the championship against unbeaten Greater Helotes Tuesday.
