To say this year’s Alice High School track and field team made its mark on the program is an understatement.

The nucleus of the team was responsible for representing the team at the Class 5A area level and then the Region IV-5A track and field championships and eventually the UIL state meet in Austin.

That same group also set a couple of school records along the way, and that’s the most impressive part of if all.

Junior Criselda Cruz set a new school record in the triple jump when she jumped 37-5. The old record of 36-9 belonged to Gina Slayton.

Junior Jacqueline Barrera set a record in the 400-meter dash. The old Alice High School mark was 60.19 set by Alexandra Ramirez. Barrera’s time was 59.20.

Junior Sean Molina broke the school’s record in the 100-meter dash. Molina had a season-best time of 10.59, breaking the old record of 10.66 held by Jose Briones.

Molina, Orlando Espinoza, Mario Guerra and Sean Molina also teamed up to set a new school record in the 800-meter relay. Their record-breaking time was 1:29.35.
