A handful of Alice High School swimmers are competing this weekend for a shot at reaching the Class 5A state meet. 

Alice is taking a group of 14 swimmers to the regional meet Friday and Saturday at the Corpus Christi Natatorium. The top finishers this weekend move on to the UIL Swimming and Diving Championships next week in Austin. 

The swimmers representing Alice are Mireya Villarreal, Mariella Villarreal, Alex Hinojosa, Robby Mercer, Mikaela Martinez, Jill Villarreal, Angel Perez, Aaren Perez, Hannah Hayslip, Greg Rodriguez, Aryssa Cruz, Alyssa Ramon, Matthew Lara and Chance Money. Each of the swimmers played at the top of their individual or relay event at the 30-5A meet Saturday at the Corpus Christi Natatorium.

Aaron Perez advanced to regionals by placing second in the 100-yard butterfly and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke. 

MiKaela Martinez was second in the 50-free and fourth in the 100-yard freestyle. 

Hannah Hayslip placed third in the 100-yard butterfly and Greg Rodriguez was third in the 1-meter dive.
