Soccer can be a cruel sport sometimes. A team can do everything right and the slightest lapse can be the difference between a win and a loss.

Such was the case in Alice's semifinal game in the Alice Coyotes Kickoff Cup in Memorial Stadium Friday evening. Much like they did in their opener against Rockport-Fulton, the Coyotes played well throughout the game, but lost to Austin Veritas, 1-0, thanks to a penalty kick midway through the second half.

It was a game in which Alice had a handful of scoring opportunities which they let slip away.

Alice goalie Morris Molina was credited with three saves.

With the loss in the tournament, the Coyotes will meet up with District 30-5A foe Gregory-Portland Saturday in a 1 p.m. match-up.

Alice began their annual tournament at noon Friday with a 4-0 victory against Rockport-Fulton.
