BENAVIDES, Texas – Maria Elva Hinojosa, 75, a longtime resident of Benavides, died Sunday, Septe,ber 21, 2008 in a Corpus Christi hospital after a long illness. She was an active member of the REAL Adult Day Care Center in Benavides for many years. She enjoyed dancing, bingos, chalupa and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fidel and Sofia Cavazos.

Survivors include her husband, Antonio Hinojosa of Benavides; three daughters, Bertha N. (Ben) Franco, Melba H. (Ovidio) Sanchez and Juanita H. (Jesse) Luna, all of Benavides; three sisters, Jesusa C. (Pilar) Miller of Dinuba, Calif., Idolina (Regino) Ramirez of Benavides and Lydia Viera of Houston; five brothers, Demetrio (Belia) Cavazos  and Ovidio (Diana) Cavazos, all of Benavides, Julian (Armandina) Cavazos of Kingsville, Eloy (Elia) Cavazos of Petronila and Fidel (Mary Lou) Cavazos of Benavides; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews   Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at the Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, Septe,ber 24, 2008, at 10 a.m. at the Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church in Benavides.  Interment will follow at Benavides Cemetery.
