FREER, Texas - Melissa Yvonne Aguilar, 37, died Monday, June 11, 2007. She was a devoted, hardworking mother who struggled for her children. Every time she was seen she always had a huge smile on her face. At the time of her death, she was working in Seguin at a Subway restaurant.

She was preceded in death by her father, Juan R. Flores; her grandmother, Eva R. Carrillo; and her grandfather, Martin Carrillo.

Survivors include her husband, Jose Aguilar, of Victoria, Texas; her mother, Virginia C. Flores, of Freer, Texas; three sons, Richard Charles Jr., Joe Angel Aguilar and Jose Aguilar Jr. all of Freer, Texas; three daughters, Ashley Nicole Charles, April (Jason Frost) Charles and Abigail Renee Charles, all of Freer, Texas; one brother, Juan (Beulah) Flores Jr. and one sister, Prescilla Y. Gaza, both of Alice, Texas.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2007, at the Garza Funeral Home in Freer, Texas, with a Rosary to be held at 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2007, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Freer, Texas, with Father Angel Montano as celebrant. Burial will follow at Hahl Memorial Cemetery.

Cadena

PALITO BLANCO, Texas - Julia Dekok Cadena, 80, passed away June 13, 2007 at her residence after a long illness. She was a housewife. She was preceded in death by her parents, Werner and Elvira Van Pyenboeck; and one son, Jesus M. Cadena Sr.

Survivors include her husband, Jose I. Cadena Sr. of Palito Blanco, Texas; nine sons, Thomas M. (Yolanda) Cadena Sr. and Felix (Gloria) Cadena, both of Palito Blanco, Texas, Carlos (Nora) Cadena of San Diego, Texas, Jose (Aurora) Cadena Jr. of Palito Blanco, Texas, David (Delia) Cadena of Alice, Texas, Ernesto (Kathy) Cadena and Rodolfo (Leonicia) Cadena, both of Rivera, Texas, Juan (Vanessa) Cadena of Alice, Texas, and Michael (Zulema) Cadena of Palito Blanco; one daughter, Sofia (Faustino) Rodriguez of Green Acres, Texas; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2007 at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in Alice. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2007 at St. Joseph Mission Catholic Church in Palito Blanco and burial will follow at La Esperanza Ranch Cemetery in La Esperanza Ranch.

Cisneros

KINGSVILLE, Texas - Angela H. Cisneros, 87, of Kingsville, Texas, passed away June 12, 2007 in Kingsville. She was born January 5, 1920 in Kingsville to Francisco and Gregoria Cisneros. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include five daughters, Mararita Villarreal, Maria Olga (Frank) Garza, Velma Villarreal and Yolanda Cisneros, all of Kingsville, and Sylvia (Domingo) Perez of Ricardo, Texas; three sons, Ascencion (Lessie) Garza of Peoria, Ariz., Francisco (Diana) Cisneros of Kingsville, Texas, and Sammy (Betty) Posada of Alice, Texas; 20 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Thursday, June 14, 2007 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

A Rosary will be recited at Ramirez-Salinas Funeral Home chapel on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Romeo Salinas officiating.

Burial will follow at Santa Gertrudis Cemetery.

Fields

ALICE, Texas - Birdie D. Fields, 88, died Monday, June 11, 2007 in a local hospital following an extended illness.

She was born to William and Mattie Fields in Runge, Texas. She was raised in Runge, Texas, and moved to Alice, Texas in 1939. Prior to her retirement she was a teacher aide with the Community Action. She was a long time member of the True Light missionary Baptist church. She was preceded in death by both parents; her stepmother, Leona Fields; her brother, Monroe Fields; and two nephews, James Allen Fields and Gene Allen Fields.

Survivors include her sister, Dorothy Haskins of Alice, Texas; stepsister, Eddie Alvarda Phenix of Alice, Texas; nieces, Mildred Fields of Alice, Texas, Mattie Bibbs of San Antonio, Texas, and Constance Mitchell of San Antonio, Texas; great-niece, Lorie Fields of Corpus Christi, Texas; nephews, Floyd Devoe of Alice, Texas, and Wade Monroe Fields of San Diego, Calif.; great-nephew, Gregory B. Fields of San Antonio, Texas; and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, June 15, 2007 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Roberson Funeral Home chapel in Alice, Texas. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, June 16, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the True Light Missionary Baptist Church in Alice. Burial will follow in the Collins Cemetery.

Franklin

SANDIA, Texas - Richard Preston Franklin, 69, passed away June 10, 2007 at his home at Pernitas Point. He was born January 31, 1938 in Poteet, Texas, to Henry M. and Willie Lee Franklin. Richard worked for Exxon on the King Ranch and was a resident of Premont for many years. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Alice County Club and the Exxon Traveling Group.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice Franklin of Sandia, Texas; three daughters, Rebecca Lynne (Jacob Eddie) Brown III of Angel Fire, N.M., Carole Diane (Joseph Michael) Tray of Fort Worth, Texas, and Melissa Kaye Sizemore of Las Vegas, Nev.; one son, Richard Preston (Patricia) Franklin of Fredricksburg, Va.; two step-daughters, Mary Katherine (Jeff) Gaynier of Carrollton, Texas, and Robin Ann (Michael) Stevens of Sugarland, Texas; 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

There will be a tree planting ceremony in memory of Richard on Friday, June 15, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. at the Alice Country Club followed by a reception at the home of Jim and Rose Yawn.

Longoria

ALICE, Texas - Ramon G. Longoria, 71, a loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle, joined the Lord June 11, 2007 in Houston, Texas. A lifelong resident of South Texas including Alice and San Diego, Ramon served in the military and worked in the news and oil industry. He enjoyed ranching and horse racing and had a great love for the outdoors. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Manuel and Paula, Longoria.

He is survived by his children, Lesdia L. Law and her husband, Macedonio Lazo Jr., of Kingwood, Texas, Irma Lydia Longoria Palma and her husband John Nick Palma of Missouri City, Texas, and Ramon Jr. of Dallas, Texas, and former wife Irma Graciela Ramon of Kingwood.

His grandchildren include Liselda Lamar Lazo of San Antonio, Marlena, Clarrisa and Sonia Lazo of Kingwood, and Lydia Graciela, John Philip and Angelica Palma of Missouri City. He is also survived by sisters and brothers, Lesdia Longoria and Lydia Longoria of Alice, and Baldemar Longoria of Alice and Oscar Longoria of San Diego. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends and family.

ALICE , Texas - Esther G. Saldana, 72, passed away June 12, 2007 in a McAllen hospital. She was born April 8, 193S in Falfurrias, Texas, to Celestino V. and Manuelita Garza. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Heliezar T. Saldana of Alice, Texas; four sons, David (Sara) Saldana of Keene, Texas; Richard (Samantha) Saldana of Highland, Calif., Robert (Patricia) Saldana of Edinburg, Texas, and Samuel (Audrey) Saldana of Weslaco; three sisters, Eva (Mauro) Rangel of Alice, Texas, Dina (Dino) Riveria of Wespieria, Calif., and Ruth Schalkwyk of Nappa, Calif.; one brother, Eli (Emma) Garza of Loma Linda, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday, June 15, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. that evening at the Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel in Alice.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, June 16, 2007 at the Seventh Day Adventist Spanish Church in Alice. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.
