Daniel Saenz, a lifetime resident of Alice and prominent businessman, passed away at his home in Alice on July 27, 2007.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Saenz Escobar and Tomasita Vera Saenz, and 13 brothers and sisters.
Saenz was born in Santa Cruz, Texas, on May 31, 1918. Mr. Saenz graduated from William Adams High School in 1937.
Mr. Saenz was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Parish, a charter member of Knights of Columbus Council #3169 and a member of the V.F.W. Post #8621 in Alice, Texas. He served in WWII in the United States Army and was a D-Day survivor.
He received five battle stars, a Bronze Star and Silver Star for Conspicuous Gallantry.
Saenz is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lydia G. Saenz; his daughters, Yolanda S. Almaraz of Georgetown,Texas, and Sylvia Saenz of Alice, Texas; his sons, Roger (Mary) Saenz of Alice, Texas, and Rodney (Lisa) Saenz of Laredo, Texas; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Affectionately called "Papo," he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who was admired by many and adored by all.
His loving presence and counsel will be sorely missed.
Rosary services will be recited at Ruben Garcia and Sons Funeral Home on Sunday July 29, 2007 at 7 p.m. Funeral arrangements will follow on Monday July 30, 2007 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with internment following at Santa Cruz Cemetery with military services conducted by the United Veterans Burial Association of Alice.
