FREER, Texas - Eleodoro A. "Lale" Cantu Jr., 59, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at a Corpus Christi hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Noelia "Nellie" G. Cantu of Freer, Texas; his children, Leonel Erasmo (Mary) Cantu, Rhonda Michelle Cantu Arnold, and Omar Noel (Cyril) Cantu, all of Freer, Texas, and Enrique A. Garza III of Hebbronville, Texas; his brothers and sisters, Adelita (the late Arnulfo) Espinioza and Arnoldo F. (Edna) Cantu both of Freer, Texas, Aldo Ray (Julie) Cantu of San Antonio, Texas, Anama (Victor) Saenz and Mike (Cindy) Cantu, both of Alice, Texas, Alma Offutt and Rosie Caudle, both of Corpus Christi, Texas, Rolando (Julie) Cantu of Decater, Robert (Daphne) Cantu of Delhi, La., and Tres Cantu of Alice, Texas; six grandchildren, a great-grandson and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 18, 2007 at the Garza Funeral Home in Freer, Texas, with a prayer service to be held at 7 p.m. that same evening. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at the Garza Funeral Home in Freer, Texas with Brother Tim Walshe, officiating. Burial will be at Hahl Memorial Cemetery in Freer.

ALICE, Texas - Indalecio "Joe" Cruz, 87, of Alice, Texas, formerly of Clute, Texas, passed away on May 14, 2007 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born on March 20, 1920 in Alice, Texas. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. Joe was an avid baseball player. He was a pitcher for the Alice Aces and was nicknamed "Lefty Cruz" He was owner of Joe Cruz Landscaping in Clute, Texas, from 1972 to 1990 and moved back to Alice, Texas, where he continued his landscaping business up until 2002. He was a sweet man with a gentle heart. He was very much loved and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reyes and Martina Cruz; a son, Ramon Cruz; two sisters, Antonia Hernandez and Emilia Nava; a granddaughter, Cynthia Perales; and a son-in-law, Johnny Aguilar.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Manuela Cruz; two sons, Indalecio (Lois) Cruz of Globe, Ariz., and Ernesto Cruz of Alice, Texas; and three daughters, Emilia (Robert) Garza, Diana (Pete) Cardona and Grace Aguilar all of Alice, Texas. He had 21 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2007 with a Rosary to recited at 7 p.m. that evening at Walker-Mora Funeral Home Chapel in Alice. Funeral Mass will be at 10 am., Saturday, May 19, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alice with a military burial conducted by The United Veterans Burial Association of Alice to follow at New Collins Cemetery-Alice.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Enriqueta G. Garza, 100, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2007. She was born in San Diego, Texas, on July 15, 1906 to Isidro and Victoriana Garza. She was a homemaker and a devout Catholic. She was preceded in death by her husband, Julio Garza.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2007 at Corpus Christi Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary to be recited that evening at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at Ss. Cyril Methodius Catholic Church. Interment will follow at San Diego Cemetery in San Diego, Texas.

SAN DIEGO, Texas - Lydia Garza, 73, passed away May 17, 2007 at her residence in San Diego. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rosendo Garza; two sons, Arnoldo and Roel Garza; and her parents, Domingo and Dolores Almaraz.
Survivors include four sons, Ruben R. Garza of Premont, Texas, and Raul Garza, Rosendo Garza Jr. and Ricardo R. "Ilda" Tanguma, all of San Diego, Texas; five daughters, Irma G. "Samuel" Ramirez and Sara Garza , both of Alice, Texas, Estella (Robert Vasquez) Garza of Victoria, Texas, Diana (Joe) Gonzalez of Midlothian, Texas, and Lydia Garza of San Diego, Texas; one sister, Beatrize Cantu of Alice, Texas; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2007 at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in San Diego. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2007 at St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church and burial will follow at Las Flores Ranch Cemetery in Duval County.

PREMONT, Texas - Celestina M. Pena, 84, passed away on May 16, 2007 at an Alice hospital.
Survivors include five sons, Audon (Odilia) Pena of Premont, Texas, Jose (Herlinda) Pena of Falfurrias, Texas, Marcelino (Aurora) Pena of Premont, Lorenzo (Janie) Pena of Beasley, Texas, and Pedro (Gloria) Pena of Driscoll, Texas; three daughters, Juanita (Alfonso) Davila of Premont, Norma (Mario) Villa of Falfurrias, and Yolanda Pena of Premont; 47 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2007 at Alaniz Funeral Home in Falfurrias, Texas. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2007 at Saint Theresa's Catholic Church in Premont. Burial will be in the Premont Cemetery, Premont, Texas.

Luther Thomas Salazar, 58, of Alice, Texas, died May 16, 2007 in Woodsboro, Texas. He was born Aug. 31, 1948 in Kingsville, Texas, to Luther and Virginia Salazar. He served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam, and was retired from the Corpus Christi Army Depot. He was an active volunteer with the Little Dribbler Boys and Girls Club and Operation Paintbrush. He coached kickball for various teams, volunteered for fundraisers and was a respected mentor and friend in the Alice community. He was preceded in death by his brother, Leo Salazar.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Salazar of Alice; one son, Mark Salazar of Washington state; three daughters, Sonya (Kenny) Hicks of Huntsville, Texas, Sarah Marie (Tony) Wilde of Atlanta, Texas, and Brenda Garcia of Alice; four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2007 at the Ramirez-Salinas Funeral Home of Kingsville, with a funeral service immediately following at 2 p.m. at the Ramirez-Salinas Funeral Home Chapel with Father Joe Torres, O.M.I., officiating.
