De La Garza

FREER, Texas - Eliberto "Gil" De La Garza, 87, a lifelong resident of Seven Sisters Community, died Thursday, November 1, 2007 in an Alice nursing home after a short illness. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and worked in the oil field and rancher all of his life. He was employed by Gormen Drilling Co. for over 14 years and Hancock Construction Co. for more than six years, and was also employed with the Freer I.S.D. for more than four years, and retired as a rancher. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ninfa Munoz De La Garza.

He is survived by his sons, Alejandro (Alma) De La Garza of Edinburg, Texas, Arturo (Estella) De La Garza of Freer, Texas, Eliberto (Diana) De La Garza Jr. of George West, Texas, and Joe (Thelma) De La Garza of Freer, Texas; his daughters, Maire De Le Garza of Alice, Texas, Teresa (Amalio) Rangel, Ninfa Isabel (Thomas) Lichtenberger and Yolanda (Vince) Simmons all of Freer, Texas, and Virginia (Roy) Villanueva of Lubbock, Texas; his sisters, Herminia (Jose) Gonzalez of Watsonville, Calif., and Amelia (Esteban) De Los Santos of Freer, Texas; two brothers, Augustin (Noemi) De La Garza of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Luis (Graciela) De La Garza of Vacaville, Calif.; 32 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 1 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, November 4, 2007 at Garza Funeral Home in Freer, Texas. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 5, 2007 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Freer, Texas, with Father Angel Montano as celebrant.

Burial followed at De La Fuente Cemetery in Seven Sisters Community.
