Ramiro A. Cantu Sr., 80, a long time resident of Freer, Texas, died Monday, September 10, 2007 in a Corpus Christi hospital after a long illness. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WW II. He had a strong religious belief in God and many people would seek his knowledge, wisdom and advice. He was a retired worker of Duval County. Ramiro was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother who will be sadly missed by his family and everyone who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Placido and Marcelina Cantu; his son, Ramiro Cantu Jr.; granddaughter, Cindy Lee Flood; a great grandson Ethan Daniel Esquivel; three brothers, Abel Cantu, Eduardo Cantu and Jose Cantu and his sister, Vicenta Cantu.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 56 years, Maria Consuelo Cantu of Freer, Texas; two sons, Hector (Alma) Cantu of San Diego, Texas, and Omar (Irasema) Cantu of Laredo, Texas; his daughters, Thelma (Thomas) Flood of Freer, Texas, Norma (Alonzo) Garza of Bishop, Texas, Patricia (Gary) Kelly of Hallettsville, Texas and Brenda (Randy) Dees of George West, Texas; his twin brother, Raul Cantu of San Diego, Texas; and his sister, Senona Perez of Kingsville, Texas. Other survivors include 15 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews

Visitation was held from 4 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at the Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas. Vigil of deceased with Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. that same evening.

Funeral mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2007 at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church in San Diego, Texas.

Military graveside services and interment followed at the Valadez Cemetery in La Bandera Community.

FREER, Texas - Ramona M. Garcia, 101, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2007, in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born November 29, 1905 in La Rosita, Texas, to the late Santos and Paula Moncada and was raised in Cotulla, Texas. At the age of 14, she was a professional seamstress for Cotulla Court House. Her passion was sewing and caring for animals, most notably cats. She always offered wise advice and shared stories from her past experiences. She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Garcia of Cotulla, Texas, and two brothers, Jose Maria Moncada of La Rosita, Texas, and Pedro Moncada of Freer, Texas.

Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Noemi (Agustine) De La Garza, Lydia Moncada Farias, Olga (Jerry) Farias and Santos (Ellie) Moncada, all of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Laruro Moncada and Edna Moncada, both of Freer, Texas.

Visitation was held on Monday, September 10, 2007 from 3 to 9 p.m. at Garza Funeral Home in Freer, Texas, with a prayer service held at 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral service was held at Garza Funeral Home Chapel at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2007 with Brother Hector Moncada officiating. Burial followed at the Hahl Memorial Cemetery in Freer, Texas.

SAN DIEGO, Texas - Guadalupe G. Hinojosa, 83, passed away September 4, 2007 in an Alice hospital. She was a volunteer for the Duval County Senior Citizens Program in San Diego, Texas. She was also a devoted parishioner and member of St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Amado and Rafaela Garcia Garcia; her husband, Eugenio R. Hinojosa; one daughter, Diana Leal; one grandson, Michael Gonzalez; a great-grandson, Victor-Carlos Samarron; three brothers and six sisters.

Survivors include three sons, Mario A. (Lile) Hinojosa of Corpus Christi, Texas, Eugenio R. (Leticia) Hinojosa Jr. of Austin, Texas, Carlos Homero (Rosie) Hinojosa of San Antonio, Texas; three daughters, Betty (Carlos) Soriano of Alice, Texas, Lupita (Ignacio) Gonzalez and Selma (Hector) Gonzalez, both of San Diego, Texas; 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was at 3 p.m. Thursday, September 6, 2007 at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in San Diego with a Rosary that evening at 7 p.m.

Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, September 7, 2007 at St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church with burial following at the San Diego Cemetery.

FREER - Francis H. "Jonese" Jones, 67, a longtime resident of Freer, died September 6, 2007 at his residence in Freer after a sudden illness.

He was born in Potsdam, N.Y., to his parents, Herbert and Melvina Jones. He was retired from Bay, Inc. after 15 years of employment. He enjoyed playing war games and his hobby was discovering items with his metal detector.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorenza P. Jones, and his parents.

Survivors include three daughters, Cricelia (Michael) Lopez of Alice, Sally Garcia of Freer and Monica (Miguel) Beltran of Dallas; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation began at noon Sunday, September 9, 2007 and funeral services followed at Garza Funeral Home of Freer at 2 p.m. with Brother Joe Carrales officiating. Military graveside services and burial followed at Las Piedrietas Cemetery 2.
