Ret. First Sergeant USMC, Servando “Buck” Garza passed away on January 4, 2009. After 24 years of service “Buck” retired from the United States Marine Corpsas a Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam (2 tours) Wars. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart Awards. “Buck” then became employed by H.E.B. where he worked for 25 years and retired as the District Manager for South Texas. He enjoyed his work, reading and beautifying his yard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leopoldo, Sr. and Celia Garza; two brothers, Rene Garza and Leopoldo Garza, Jr.; one sister, Gloria Gaines; one daughter, Sandra Ann Garza and his parents-in-law, Cecilio and Cenovia Salinas.
“Buck” is survived by his wife Cecilia “Kinney” Garza of Alice, Texas; one son, Buck Edward (Elizabeth) Garza of Fort Worth, Texas; one daughter, Wilma Jo (Dallas Ray) Smetter of Harlingen, Texas; three grandchildren, Blaise and Shannon Garza of Fort Worth, Texas and Reed Justis Smetter of Harlingen, Texas; six brothers, Leonel Garza of Killeen, Texas, Lauro (Dorothy) Garza of San Antonio, Texas, Luis (Mary) Garza of Portland, Texas, Jesus (Terry) of Kingsville, Texas, Jose (Josefina) Garza of Portland, Texas and Juan (Eva) Garza of Hebbronville, Texas; three sisters, Dalia (Juan) Sanchez of Portland, Texas, Elda (Leopoldo) Gomez of Houston, Texas, and Dolores Garza of Hebbronville, Texas; one brother-in-law, Eraclio (Maria) Salinas of Falfurrias, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Rosita Garza and Eulalia (Raul) Trevino both of Falfurrias, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at Ruben M. Garcia & Sons Funeral Services, Chapel A, in Alice, Texas, with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. that same evening. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alice, Texas at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Falfurrias, Texas.
