FREER, Texas - Karen Rae Flood, 28, a former resident of Freer, Texas, died Saturday, October 13, 2007 in San Antonio, Texas, from injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident.

She was a graduate of Freer High School, Class of 1997, attended San Antonio College, and graduated from Career Point Nursing Program.

She was employed as a medical supply technician and in the medical industry for more than four years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and devoted her life to her son, Ryan, whom she adored. She was preceded in death by her sister, Cindy Lee Flood; maternal grandfather, Ramiro Cantu; and paternal grandparents, Ray and Ethel Flood.

She is survived by her parents, Thomas and Thelma Flood of Freer, Texas; one son, Ryan Taylor Flood of San Antonio, Texas; three brothers, Lee Thomas (Deanna Langhamer) Flood, of La Grange, Texas, Jared Michael Vincent Flood of Ft. Stewart, Ga., and Wesley Allen Flood of Freer, Texas; maternal grandmother, Consuelo Cantu of Freer, Texas; maternal great-grandmother, Josefa Valadez of Palito Blanco Community; one niece and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday October 17, 2007 at the Garza Funeral Home in Freer, Texas. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 18, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Freer, Texas with Brother Tim Walshe officiating. Burial will follow at the Hahl Memorial Cemetery in Freer, Texas.

ALICE, Texas - Richard Allen Smith, 60, went to be with the Lord on October 13, 2007 after a long illness. He was born in Warrensburg, Mo., on February 6, 1947. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gorden and Isaura Valverde Smith. Richard was a graduate of Rio Grande High School, after graduation he went to serve our country in the Vietnam War.

After serving his country he came back to Alice to open Richards Bar-B-Que for 15 years. He was also known as the hamburger man because of his many years as a vendor at the Fiesta Bandana and the Jim Wells County Fair. Richard was known and loved by many people in the community.

At the time of his death he had been retired and was enjoying life and spending time with his grandchildren. His favorite pasttime was going to local businesses to have his daily cup of coffee.

He leaves behind a wife: Sandra Smith of Alice, Texas; son, Scott Smith of Alice, Texas; daughter: Joanna (Noe) Ovalle of Agua Dulce, Texas; four grandchildren who were his pride and joy - Aurora Natasha , Julia Isaura, John Michael andChristie Ann; a brother: Frank (Mary) Smith of Robstown, Texas; and two sisters, Diana (Hector) Chapa of Alice, Texas, and Margaret (Ricardo) Hernandez of McAllen, Texas.

Viewing will begin Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at 3 p.m. at the Roberson Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary to be recited that evening at 7 p.m. Graveside funeral services will be at 1:45 p.m. Thursday, October 18, 2007 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
