WEST OLIVE, Mich. - Roque Bazan, 70, of West Olive, Mich., passed away at his home on Monday, December 24, 2007. He enjoyed fishing, working in his yard and spending time with his grandchildren. He retired from Rockwell International and Life Savers of Holland. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jose Bazan Jr. and Robert Bazan.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Connie; children, Imelda and Randall Brower of Holland, Mich., Chris Bazan of West Olive, Mich., Shelly and Rich Pasek Jr. of Gobles, Mich.; three grandchildren, four brothers, three sisters, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and cousins.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 28, 2007 at Lakeshore Memorial Services in Holland, Mich.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Holland or American Cancer Society.

VICTORIA, Texas - Ruth Lewis, 79, of Victoria, Texas, passed away on December 21, 2007 at her daughter's home in Agua Dulce. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on November 8, 1928. She received her nurses training at St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Covington, Ky., and graduated with her bachelor's in nursing from College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati. She attended Case Western Reserve where she earned her Master's Degree in Nursing. Ruth was a nursing instructor for more than 40 years and taught at various colleges including Incarnate Word College in San Antonio and Victoria College in Victoria, Texas. She retired in 1995 to spend time with her grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She was a devout Catholic and a long-time member of Our Lady Victory Cathedral in Victoria, Texas. In 1996, she received the distinguished honor of Who's Who Among America's Teachers. Ruth served in the United States Army as a Major and married her husband, Donald Lewis while in the military. He preceded her in death in August of 2005. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Father Raymar Middendorf.
She is survived by her only child, Christy Haigood, her son-in-law, Pat Haigood and her two beloved grandchildren, Megan and Zachary Haigood, all of Agua Dulce, Texas; two sisters, Sr. Mary Middendorf of Louisville, Ky., and Martha Haas of Mason, Ohio; her brother, Thomas Middendorf of Cincinnati, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 7 pm. Thursday, December 27, 2007 at Rosewood Funeral Chapel in Victoria. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2007 at Our Lady of Victory Cathedral with Father David Berger officiating.

ALICE, Texas - Alfredo T. Martinez, 94, passed away December 25, 2007 in an Alice nursing home. He was born July 21, 1913 in Yorktown, Texas, to Federico and Enedina Martinez. He was retired from Heldt Brothers Trucking. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Robelin Martinez; four sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Cleotilde Martinez of Alice; three daughters, Olga (Roman) Rodriguez and Oralia (Reynaldo) Ramos, both of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Enedina (Alfonso) Garcia of Alice; one sister, Sophia Dominguez of Murpheys, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 27, 2007 from noon to 9 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. that evening at the Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2007 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Alice. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Ramiro Ramirez, 79, passed away on December 24, 2007 after a sudden illness in Alice, Texas. He was a retired construction worker. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Natividad Serna and Julia Sendejo; and one brother; Eloy H. Ramirez.
Survivors include his two brothers, Gabriel Ramirez of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Diego Ramirez of San Diego, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitations will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2007 at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in San Diego with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, December 28, 2007 at 10 a.m. at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church in San Diego. Burial will follow at the San Diego Cemetery #2 in San Diego, Texas.
