Cantu

ALICE, Texas - Irma P. Cantu, 96, went to join our Heavenly Father on Friday May 25, 2007, after a short illness. She was born in Parras, Nuevo Leon, but lived in Alice, Texas, for many years where she graduated from high school and worked as an assistant to a local physician. She then worked as a secretary for County Judge Storm and Judge Harville until she graduated from Texas A and I University in Kingsville. She taught school for a year in Corpus Christi and then moved to Laredo where she taught Special Ed at Santo Nino Elementary School until her retirement. For a few years she lived in Hebbronville, Texas, until she returned to Laredo. She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Mariana Cantu; her sisters, Mercedes Chapa, Berta Chapa and Beatriz Benavides; and a nephew Victor Chapa.

She will be greatly missed by her sister, Eufemia C. Rodriguez of Oilton, Texas; nieces, Norma (Walter) Winters of Alto, N.M., Margie ( Jimmy) Langford of San Antonio, Texas, Esmeralda Chapa, Beatriz Silva, Gloria (Ron) Morgan and Rosie (Santos) Ramirez, all of Corpus Christi, Texas, Sylvia Saenz of Brownsville, Texas, Dalia Guerra of Realitos, Texas, and Mary Ann (Eddie) Gomez of Dallas, Texas; nephews, Leo Rodriguez of Laredo, Texas, and Adrian (Elma) Chapa of Corpus Christi, Texas; and numerous other great-nephews and great-nieces.

Visitation was at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 27, 2007 at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Horne Chapel in Alice with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, May 28, 2007 at 10 a.m. at St, Joseph Catholic Church in Alice, Texas. Burial followed at New Collins Cemetery in Alice, Texas.

Estes

PREMONT, Texas - Arlie W. Estes, 90, passed away Friday, May 25, 2007 at an El Campo nursing home. He was born Sept. 21, 1916, to Virgil and Cassie Sharp Estes in Yellsville, Ark., and was raised by his stepfather, Oscar Kelly. He worked many years in the oilfield, and finally retired from Mills Bennett and Associates.

Survivors include his wife, Imogene Estes of Premont, Texas; two sons, Arlie W. (Betty) Estes Jr. of Port Neches, Texas, and Jim R. Estes of Antioch, Calif.; a daughter, Lola A. (Nick) Beaver of El Campo, Texas; 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday May 29, 2007 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday May 30, 2007 at the First Baptist Church of Premont with interment following at the Premont Cemetery.

Hernandez

PREMONT, Texas - Matilde Hernandez, 72, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2007, after a very long illness. She was born on March 14, 1935, to Antonio Quintanilla and Anita De Los Santos Quintanilla in Premont. She was a lifelong member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church. She was a retired partner of Rita's Drive-In and she loved to go on casino trips to Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her parent and two grandsons.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Ruben A. Hernandez of Premont; a son, Jose Antonio (Melba) Hernandez of Falfurrias; two daughters, Dora Anita (Buck) Shedd of Woodsboro, Texas, and Sylvia (Robert) Richards of Del Rio, Texas; five sisters, Lupe (Cleofas) Hinojosa and Pancha (Leo) Herrera, both of Premont, Lydia Neely of Orange Grove, Texas, Anna Maria Mata and Rita (Vidal) Garcia, both of Premont; two brothers, Antonio Rene Quintanilla and Enrique (Dora) Quintanilla, both of Premont; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday, May 28, 2007 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard-Williams in Falfurrias. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday May 29, 2007 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Premont. Interment followed at the Premont Cemetery.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Maria Manrique Perez, 54, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2007. She was preceded in death by her parents, Felix and Nicolasa Manrique.

Survivors include her husband, Ernesto S. Perez of Corpus Christi, Texas; one son, Ernesto (Noelia) Perez Jr. of San Antonio, Texas; one daughter, Melinda (Roger) Rodriguez of Corpus Christi, Texas; three brothers, Robert (Elva) Manrique of Alice, Texas, Felix Manrique Jr. of San Marcos, Texas, and David (Idalia) Manrique of Martindale, Texas; and two sisters, Elisa M. (Joe) Paez and Estella (Santiago) Chapa of Alice, Texas. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Michael Anthony Perez, Kylee Angel Rodriguez and Amber Rodriguez of Corpus Christi, Texas, Sonia Maria Perez, Sophia Delia Perez and Saniya Noelle Perez of San Antonio, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation began at 2 p.m. Monday, May 28, 2007 with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. that evening at Ruben M. Garcia and Sons Funeral Services, Inc., 120 E. Front Street. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Interment followed at Roberson-Collins Cemetery.

Trevino

SAN DIEGO, Texas - Ines C. Trevino, 91, passed away Friday May 25, 2007, in an Alice hospital after a long illness. Mr. Trevino was born November 15, 1913, in San Diego, Texas, to Benito and Criselda Trevino. He was a lifelong resident of Duval County and a veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Army in the 785th Tank Battalion Company "C." He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8931 and American Legion Post #0405. Ines was a farmer and rancher at his ranch.

If we had to name one thing that Ines excelled at - it would have to be the special bond he maintained with his family. He was a loving and devoted father who valved his family above all else… always there with a shoulder to lean on, a kind word and a ready helping hand. Always accepting and never judgmental… just a quiet tower of strength for all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Benito and Criselda Cadena Trevino; his wife, Paula R. Trevino; two sons, Jose Benito and Juan Rene Trevino; one brother, Ismael Trevino; and three sisters, Edna Valdez, Guadalupe Estringel and Maria Alaniz.

Survivors include his six sons, Federico (Carol) Trevino, Porfirio (Elda) Trevino, Gabino Trevino, Felipe (Jessica) Trevino and Jose Oscar Trevino, all of San Diego, Texas, and Ines Ernesto (Criselda) Trevino of Kingsville, Texas; four daughters, Diana (Donald) Cavazos of Orange Grove, Texas, Sonia (Frank) Perez of Son Diego, Texas, Rosario (Juan) Perez of La Rosita Community, Texas, and Melissa Trevino of San Diego, Texas; three sisters, Aurora Platz of California, Apolonia (Jesus) Montalvo of Kingsville, Texas, and Petra Platz of Corpus Christi, Texas; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation began at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 27, 2007 at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home Chapel in San Diego with a Rosary recited that evening at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, May 28, 2007 at 11 a.m. at St. Francis dePaula Catholic Church. Military graveside servcies were conducted by the San Diego VFW Post #8931 with burial following at Colombia Cemetery at Bretana Ranch, Texas.
