RAMIREZ, Texas - Herminia G. "Minnie" Chavera, 86, a lifelong resident of Ramirez, Texas, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2007 in an Alice hospital after a long illness. She enjoyed gardening, loved a variety of flowers, trees and green grass. She also enjoyed cooking for any occasion, her specialty was carne guisada, beans, rice and potato salad, and for Christmas holidays she enjoyed making tamales, empanadas, cookies and pan de polvo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Domingo Chavera, her parents, and brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her four children, Diana (Liborio) Saenz of Benavides, Texas, Hector Mario (Rosa) Chavera of Alice, Texas, Jorge Chavera and Leticia (Raul) Rios, both of Ramirez, Texas; seven grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, her caretaker, her goddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, 2007 at the Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007 at St. Rosa De Lima Catholic Church with Father Paul as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Benavides Cemetery in Benavides, Texas.

ALICE, Texas - Higinio "Jim" Gonzalez, 62, passed away Friday, August 3, 2007. He was born on June 25, 1945 in Robstown, Texas, to Higinio Santiago Gonzalez and Pauline De Los Santos Gonzalez. He was a dental technician, a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Alice, a member of the Knights of Columbus and a long time resident of Orange Grove and Alice, Texas, formerly of Robstown. He also served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era. He was preceded in death by his father, Higinio Santiago Gonzalez; one sister, Flora Clayton; and a brother, Claude "Toby" Gonzalez.

Survivors include his wife, Susie Gonzalez of Alice; a daughter, Leila (John) Cervantes of Corpus Christi, Texas; a son, Orlando (Linda) Gonzalez of Robstown, Texas; his mother, Pauline Amador of Tynan, Texas; two brothers, Jose Andres (Melinda) Gonzalez and Freddy (Martha) Gonzalez, both of Corpus Christi, Texas; five sisters, Kathy (Daniel) Gonzales of Snook, Texas, Nelda (the late Benito) Benavidez and Nilda (Bruce) Strange, both of Kaufman, Texas, Claudia (Jay) Kelly of Alabama and Jackie (Monroe) Peters of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007 at Ramon Funeral Home Chapel in Robstown. A funeral Mass was celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, 2007 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Robstown, Texas. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Robstown with military honors.
