SAN DIEGO, Texas - Arnoldo Barrera, 93, passed away peacefully on the morning of October 19, 2007, his 67th wedding anniversary to his wife, Lalita Reyes. He was a devout Catholic and member of the Mutualistas. He was dedicated to family, friends and work. He graduated from San Diego High School in 1934. His primary work of 27 years was selling insurance for the American National Insurance Company. As an avid golfer, walker and sport enthusiast, his life was active and a celebration of the human spirit. He was preceded in death by his father, Juan Barrera; mother, Urbana; five brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Lalita; his sons, Arnoldo Jr. (Maria Elia), Ricardo (Patricia), Luis (Lucille), and Israel (Lili); his daughters, Graciela Kavulla (Timothy) and Lupita Barrera (Bob Parvin), his brother, Jose Oscar Barrera; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 3 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, October 21, 2007 at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, October 22, 2007 at St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church. Burial followed at the San Diego Cemetery in San Diego, Texas.

Garcia

BENAVIDES, Texas - Odilia M. Garcia, 84, a lifelong resident of Benavides, Texas, died Monday, October 15, 2007 in a Corpus Christi hospital after a short illness.

She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and attending church. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and one sister.

Survivors include her brothers, Guadalupe M. (Lela) Garcia of Benavides, Texas, Ramiro M. (Elvira) Garcia of Freer, Texas, and Amador M. (Pauline) Garcia of Alice, Texas; her sister, Criselda G. Ramires of Benavides, Texas; her sister-in-law and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation was held from 3 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas, with a Rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 18, 2007 at Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church with Father Andrew Hejdak as celebrant in Benavides, Texas. Burial followed at the Benavides Cemetery in Benavides, Texas.

Laso

SAN DIEGO, Texas - Marsela Guillerma "Mema" Laso, 77, passed away Friday, October 19, 2007. She was born on January 31, 1930 in Taft, Texas, to Benito and Catarina Torres.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Ismael Torres.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Rogelio Laso Sr.; three sons, Homero (Belma) Laso of Corpus Christi, Texas, Rogelio (Vickie) Laso Jr. and Rene Laso, both of San Diego, Texas; five daughters, Maria Hilda Laso of San Diego, Texas, Angelmira (Carlos) Trevino of Beeville, Texas, Edelmira (Benito) Rios of Corpus Christi, Texas, Maria Catalina (Trace) Weaver of Corpus Christi, Texas, Rebecca (Paul) Flores of Corpus Christi, Texas; her brother, Benito (Soila) Torres Jr.; 21 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Visitation was held from 3 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, October 21, 2007 at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas, with a Rosary recited at 6 p.m. that same evening.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 22, 2007 at St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church in San Diego, Texas. Burial followed at the Rodriguez Cemetery in La Parrita Community, Texas.
