FALFURRIAS, Texas - Barbarita Pena Galindo passed away on May 9, 2007 at CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital in Kingsville after a brief illness. She was born on May 17, 1921 in Falfurrias, Texas, the daughter of a pioneer family in the Falfurrias area. She first worked for Walter Blumer furniture store and Walgreens Drug Store. She also worked at Pak N Sak and later as a docent for the Falfurrias Heritage Museum. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Maria Pena and Martina H. Pena; her brother, Samuel Santos Pena; sisters, Apolonia P. Canales and Candelaria P. Maldonado; and a grandson.

Survivors include her daughters, Sylvia O. Longoria and Alba E. (Oscar) Garcia of San Antonio, Texas; her brother, Yrineo H. (Mary) Pena of Falfurrias; sister, Martina P. (Rene) Garcia of Ben Bolt, Texas; her five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and Homero Canales and Irma M. Garcia of Premont, whom she helped raise as her own children.

A Rosary will be recited at the Alaniz Funeral Home in Falfurrias at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 11, 2007. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Falfurrias at 10 a.m. with burial following at the old Sacred Heart Cemetery.
