Agapita R. Serrata-Escochea, 82, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007.

She was born Oct. 27, 1924 in Yuma, Ariz. to Jesus Renteria and Encarnacion Rivera Renteria.

Agapita was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, a member of Congregacion Mariana, a volunteer with Retama Manor Nursing Home and active with various other organizations and church activities.

Agapita was preceded in death by her husband, Raul Escochea; one son, Johnny Serrata; one sister, Teresa Renteria; and two brothers, Dionicio Renteria and Jesus Renteria Jr.

She is survived by her children, Matias Serrata Jr. of Corpus Christi, Maria Delia Mendoza of Oxnard, Calif., Rene Arturo Serrata of Robstown, Jessy Serrata of Santa Rosa, Abel Serrata of Robstown, Nora Kitong of Fresno, Calif., Sylvia Trevino of Corpus Christi, Frank Serrata of Robstown, and Ester Serrata of Houston; two sisters, Josefina Velasquez and Angelita Renteria, both of Robstown; one brother, Roberto Renteria of Robstown; 33 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday, Sept. 16 and 17, in the Ramon Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Robstown.

Interment followed in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Robstown.
