ALICE, Texas - Hortencia "Tencha" Gonzalez attained eternal life on September 26, 2007. She was born in Seven Sisters, Texas on December 2, 1936. She was 70 years old.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Eduardo and Gregoria Trevino; her parents-in-law, Fernando and Nicolasa Gonzalez; a brother-in-law, Manuel Munoz, Jr.; and a son-in-law, Luis Noe Gonzalez.
Tencha is survived by her husband, Andres V. Gonzalez; her children, Rachel (David) Munoz, Hilda (Rick) Davila, Andres "Mi Rey" Gonzalez, Jr. and Selma (Esteban) Guerra; her sisters, Olga (Cecilio) Trejo; Enedina Munoz, Ana (Thomas) Villagran; and one brother, Jesus (Zoila) Trevino; along with numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
As a grandmother, she was deeply devoted to her eight grandchildren, David Munoz II, Omar Munoz, J.R. (LeAnn) Davila, Justin Davila, Kristen Soliz, Victoria Gonzalez, Lauren Gonzalez, and Steven Guerra. Her love and tenderness instilled in them a gently spirit that is easily recognized as "Grandma Tencha".
Hortencia would talk to a stranger as if they were a friend. Many times they would become friends. Always ready with a smile, a hug, or an encouraging word, she was everybody's favorite "Tia". Her contagious laugh was surpassed only by her generous heart and unconditional love.
Her deep, selfless love stemmed from her unwavering devotion to our Lord Jesus Christ. Her faith in God was both childlike and tenacious. She was always ready to pray for others and constantly lent a listening ear to all those who needed it.
Mamma Tencha's legacy, besides her Mexican Chocolate Cake, will be that of a giver. In every sense of the word, a giver. One rarely left her home empty-handed. We will miss her tremendously, but we rejoice that she now walks on streets of gold.
