BENAVIDES, Texas - Elda O. Cervantes, 83, a lifelong resident of Benavides, Texas, died Monday, July 30, 2007 in a San Diego nursing home after a long illness. She was owner and operator of Elda's Beauty Shop in Benavides for more than 15 years. She enjoyed listening to music and dancing with her husband, Mauricio. She was preceded in death by her son, George L. Cervantes on May 5, 1994.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Mauricio Cervantes of Benavides, Texas; her son, Mark Cervantes of San Antonio, Texas; her two daughters, Leticia Cervantes and Brenda (Joey) Garcia, both of Benavides, Texas; her daughter-in-law, a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007 at the Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas. Vigil for the Deceased will be observed, with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007 at Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church in Benavides, Texas, with Father Paul as Celebrant. Burial will follow at the Benavides Cemetery in Benavides, Texas.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Daniel G. Gallegos Sr., born November 11, 1928 in San Diego, Texas, passed away July 30, 2007.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gilma Garcia Gallegos, and children, Gilbert O. (Celeste Cardenas) Gallegos , Leila Gallegos, and Daniel Gallegos Jr., two grandchildren, Nicole Santos and Frank Daniel Santos, four great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Enriqueta "Kate" (Joaquin) Arredondo, and Maria (the late Andres) Reyes; sisters-in-law include Nora Amador and family, Humberto (Bessie) Garcia, Alma G. Gonzalez and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Concepcion Gallegos; sister, Hortencia (the late Reynaldo) Ramos, and brother, Pedro (Josefa) Gallegos Jr.
With 40 years of service at Southern Pacific Railroad and Tex-Mex Railroad, he retired from his position as a Railroad Processing Agent. Before this, he served his country in the Korean War, receiving numerous decorations, including, the Korean Bronze Service Star. In addition, he served his community for many years as a member of the Knights of Columbus #5919. His hobbies included coaching basketball at Christ the King's Parochial School, baseball with the Little League and ranching on La Trinidad Ranch.
In his formative years, he was an avid trumpet player, receiving a music scholarship to Corpus Christi State University. He made All-District in Basketball for San Diego High School in Texas. Most of all, he loved sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Seaside Funeral Home, with the Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. that evening.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007 at 10 a.m.
Interment will follow at Seaside Memorial Park with Military Honors.
Pallbearers will include the following nephews: Reynaldo Ramos, Andres Reyes, Aaron Reyes, Hector Daniel Gallegos, Mario Amador, Carlos Gonzalez and Manuel Amador.

Donations may be made to Adult Leukemia Society or St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church Building Fund in behalf of Daniel G. Gallegos in lieu of flowers if desired.

CORPUS CHRISTI - George C. Gebert, 69, passed away July 29, 2007 in Corpus Christi.
He was born January 18, 1938 in Alice, Texas, to Walter H. and Selma Gebert. He was a retired fishing tool supervisor, and a United States Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Araceli Gebert of Corpus Christi; one daughter, Deyanira Garcia of Corpus Christi; one son, George (Lisa) Gebert Jr. of Corpus Christi; two sisters, Lorene Buegeler of Alice and Mary Ann Hebert of Oak Harbor, Wash.; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007 from 2 to 9 p.m., and Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2007 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Alice. Burial will follow in the Alice Cemetery. with military honors conducted by the United Veterans Burial Association.

ALICE, Texas - Antonio G. Gutierrez, 41, died July 30, 2007 in Dallas, Texas. He was a graduate of Alice High School and had played football for the Alice Coyotes. In 1983 he moved to Dallas, Texas, and lived there until his death. He worked for Budget Rent a Car for 21 years. He was presently employed with Bell Helicopter Company. He enjoyed playing football with his children and also enjoyed camping, fishing and going to football and baseball games. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Pablo Joslin Gutierrez; and his paternal grandparents, Rufino Sr. and Paula Gutierrez.
Survivors include his son, Christion Anthony Gutierrez of North Richland Hills, Texas; daughter, Aylisa Gutierrez of North Richland Hills, Texas; parents, Raul Gutierrez Sr. and Elma Gutierrez of Alice, Texas; his maternal grandmother, Christina Rios Gutierrez of Orange Grove, Texas; two brothers, Raul (Mercedes) Gutierrez Jr. of Alice, Texas, and Daniel James "Jimmy" (Juanita) Gutierrez of Joliet, Ill.; one sister, Rachel (Michael) Hernandez of Arlington, Texas; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007 at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in Alice. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alice. Burial will follow at New Collins Cemetery in Alice.
