BANQUETE - Pablo R. Alaniz, 73, a retired rancher from Banquete, died October 5, 2007 after a long illness.
He was a member of St. John of the Cross in Orange Grove.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucas and Paulita Alaniz; and a brother, Pioquinto Alaniz.
He is survived by his wife, Minerva G. Alaniz of Banquete; a son, Pablo (Gracie) Alaniz Jr. of Orange Grove; five daughters, Rosalinda (Elizandro) Garcia, Nora (Rene) Sanchez, all of Banquete, Nilda (Henry) Gamboa of Beeville, Angelita (Guadalupe) Alejandro of Orange Grove and Belinda (Juan) Mendoza of Sugarland, Texas; 12 grandchildren; four brothers, Ramiro, Benito, Emilio and Trinidad Alaniz; and four sisters, Francisca Gonzalez, Beatrice Rios, Consuelo Guerra and Cleotilde Valdez.
A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, October 7, 2007 at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home Chapel in Alice. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, October 8, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alice. Burial will follow at San Diego Cemetery No. 2 in San Diego.

CALALLEN - Mary E. Dewey, 88, of Calallen passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2007.
She was born on January 5, 1919 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was retired from CCISD.
She is survived by three daughters, Thelma Sifferd of Calallen, DeAnna Lombardi of Landing, N.J., and Florence Onderdonk of Falfurrias; three sons, John Dewey of Alice, Larry Dewey of Portland and Gary Dewey of Robinson, Texas; a brother, Thomas C. Glasset of Mesquite, Texas; 87 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, October 12, 2007 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel in Corpus Christi. Graveside services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, October 12, 2007 at Restlawn Memorial Park in LaFeria, Texas.

Consuelo M. Espinoza, 70, passed away October 8, 2007 in an Alice hospital after a short illness.
She was retired from the Hospitality House, Inc. in Alice. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Gregoria Benavides Marroquin Sr.; her husband; Carlos Espinoza; two sons, Alejandro and Mario Espinoza; and three brothers.
She is survived by her two sons, Fred (Sarah) Espinoza and David (Sylvia) Espinoza, both of Alice; two daughters, Nelda (Santos) Jones and Leticia (Eugene Benavides) Salinas both of Alice; four brothers, Fidel Marroquin of Houston, Texas, Santiago (Bertha) Marroquin of Richmond, Texas, Gilberto (Alicia) Marroquin of El Paso, Texas, and Jose Marroquin Jr. of Annaville, Texas; three sisters, Juanita Hernandez of Corpus Christi, Texas, Gabriela Arrellano of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Maria (Bonifacio) Cuellar of Sinton, Texas; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007 at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Alice, Texas. Burial will follow at the San Diego Cemetery in San Diego, Texas.

Lorraine Gilbreath, 88, passed away October 6, 2007 at her home in Alice. She was born January 2, 1919 in Pecan Gap, Texas, to Clifton and Mary Lockie Hyder. Gilbreath was employed for many years at the South Texas Auction Barn as the secretary and bookkeeper.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Gilbreath; her daughter, Kay Kerr; and a son, David Gilbreath.
Survivors include her sister, Juanita Butler of Weslaco; her son-in-law, Lael Kerr of Corpus Christi; four grandchildren, Kandace Kerr, Janet Kincaid, Jon Kerr and Shelly McCants; eight great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 9, 2007 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Holmgreen Mortuary.
The funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at the Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in the Alice Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society.

Aida G. Lopez, 77, died Thursday, October 4, 2007 in a Corpus Christi, Texas, hospital following an extended illness. She was born to Francisco and Maria Garza on June 13, 1930 in Orange Grove, Texas. She was a member of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Maria T. (Joe) Garcia of Orange Grove, Texas, and Rosa Hernandez of Alice, Texas; five sons, Guadalupe G. (Ginnie) Rios of Alice, Texas, Ramiro G. (Diana) Rios of Alice, Texas, Roy (Belinda) Rios of Germany, Augustine Rios of Turlock, Calif., and Robert (Mary) Rios Jr. of Orange Grove, Texas; a sister, Jesusa Garcia Ortiz of Orange Grove, Texas; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, October 7, 2007 at the Roberson Funeral Home in Alice, Texas, with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. that evening.

CORPUS CHRISTI- Eloy H. Ramirez, 85, passed away October 8, 2007 in a Corpus Christi Nursing Home.
He was born January 17, 1922 to Gabriel and Herminia Ramirez in Guajillo Ranch, Texas. He was a World War II Army veteran and served from October 1942 to November 1945. He also served during the Pacific Theatre.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Natividad Serna and Julia Sendejo.
Survivors include three brothers, Gabriel Ramirez of Corpus Christi, Ramiro Ramirez of Corpus Christi, and Diego Ramirez of San Diego, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 11, 2007 at St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church and burial will follow at the San Diego Cemetery Number 2. VICTORIA, Texas - Margie Marie Calvez Stanford of Victoria passed away Friday October 5, 2007 after a lenthy illness. She was born July 27, 1932 in Orange Grove to the late Emil Andrew Calvez and Annie Frances Thiede Calvez. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Eugene Stanford.
She is survived by her daughters, Cathy (Steve) Jones, Vickie (Doug) Quinn and Pam Pahmiyer, all of Victoria.; sisters, Gladys Schroedter, Novileen Coffman, Betty Touchberry, Carolyn Coffman, Christine Vanecek and their spouses; and brothers, Louis Calvez, Alton Calvez, Larry Calvez, Tommy Calvez and their spouses.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. with a Rosary at 4 p.m. Sunday, October 7, 2007 at Grace Funeral Home in Victoria.
Funeral services are Monday, October 8, 2007 at Grace Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Dick Wearden officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Victoria.
