FALFURRIAS, Texas - Hector G. Cantu, 59, passed away on November 7, 2007 at his residence in Falfurrias. He was preceded in death by his parents, Enrique and Dora V. Cantu; and a brother, Enrique Cantu Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Olga T. Cantu of Encino, Texas; one son, Hector (Melissa A. Garza) Cantu Jr. of Kingsville, Texas; four daughters, Olga Lee C. (Robert) Lara of Falfurrias, Nori A. (Peter) Garcia of Corpus Christi, Texas, Nora L. Cantu of Kingsville and Dora L. (Raul) Garcia Jr. of Mission, Texas; two brothers, Eliberto (San Juanita) Cantu and Omar (Imelda) Cantu, both of Falfurrias, Texas; and 12 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday November 10, 2007 at Alaniz Funeral Home of Falfurrias.

Garcia

SAN DIEGO, Texas - Roberto Garcia, 66, of San Jose Community in Duval County, died on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 after a long struggle with cancer. Roberto was born in the community of San Andres on January 19, 1941, the son of Teodoro and Josefa Vela Garcia. He graduated from San Diego High School. He was a lifelong rancher and was employed by the King Ranch, working in the aviation department for 29 years. He married Graciela Garcia, of Benavides, on June 7, 1970. He was a member of San Jose Mission of the Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Parish. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his brothers, Elias V. Garcia and Zaragosa Garcia, both of Corpus Christi, Texas.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Graciela Garcia of San Jose Community, Texas; his children Roel (Dawn) Garcia of Holland, Mich., Roberto Noel (Maricella) Garcia, Linda (Arnoldo) Alvarez both of San Jose Community, Texas; his three grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Minerva V. Garcia of Bretana Ranch, Elva (Rodolfo) Lopez of San Jose Community, Rene V. (Elma) Garcia of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Blanca (Adan) Salazar of Spring Branch, Texas, two sisters in-law; his numerous in-laws, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2007 at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas, with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2007 at San Jose Mission Catholic Church with Father Andrew Hejdak as celebrant in San Jose Community, Texas. Burial will follow at the Lopez Cemetery in San Jose Community.

Gomez

ALICE, Texas - Doroteo S. Gomez Sr., 84, of Alice, Texas, a World War II and Korean War veteran, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2007. He served as a peace officer for the Alice Police Department, Jim Wells County Sheriff's Department and as Jim Wells County Constable for more than 45 years. He loved raising horses, goats and cattle. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esmeralda Gomez; his parents; a son, Doroteo Gomez Jr.; three brothers, Tony, Rene and Atanacio Gomez; and one sister, Penny Lozano.

Survivors include two daughters, Gloria (Eudoxcio) Morin and Delia (Israel "Eddie") Canales, both of Alice, Texas; three sisters, Olivia (Noe) Mendez and Yolanda Gomez, both of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Berta Gomez of Alice; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2007 at Chapel A, Ruben M. Garcia and Sons Funeral Services, Inc., with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Interment will follow at New Collins Cemetery with military honors conducted by the United Veterans Burial Association of Alice.
