SAN DIEGO, Texas - Marina Emma "Cha-Cha" Gonzalez, 72, has returned Home, to rest alongside her Lord, Mother of God and her beloved family on June 3, 2007 at 1:37 a.m. She died in an Alice hospital after a short illness.

Marina was born in Loma Alta on July 15, 1934 on the ranch of her parents, the late Abel and Marina Saenz Lopez. Co-raised by her grandmother, the late Elvira Saenz Lopez, she was also preceded in death by one daughter, Elvira Edna Garcia; her first husband, Ramon F. Garcia; her second husband, David Gonzalez; and one sister, Celia L. Garcia.

Marina is survived by one son, Ramon (Gloria) Garcia Jr. of Honolulu, Hawaii; four daughters, Imelda (Daniel) Perez of Alice, Texas, Amparo Garcia-Crow of Austin, Texas, Anna Maria Garcia of Austin, Texas, and Rosa Gloria Gonzalez of San Diego; one brother, Abel (Grace) Lopez Jr. of Irving, Texas; and two sisters, Elmira (Pedro) Guerra of San Diego and Cleo (Pete) Casias of San Antonio; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marina is remembered for her excellent, loving service as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in various hospitals in the Alice and San Diego areas, often hired to assist patients privately. As a parishioner of St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church, she belonged to numerous Catholic organizations. Her Crusillo experience was a lifelong blessing, giving her a strong, undying love for prayer and the faith that saw her through many challenging hardships, making Cha-Cha an inspiration to all who knew her. Marina's other great love was music, singing for numerous friends and families, celebrating a lifetime of many special occasions with her joy-filled cerrenatas.

Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2007 at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home Chapel in San Diego with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church in San Diego. Burial will follow at the San Diego Cemetery.

Mendoza

Oscar S. Mendoza, 60, was called home by our Lord and Savior on Friday, June 1, 2007. He was born on May 26, 1947, and was raised in Alice. He was a retired hay hauler and truck driver. He will always be remembered for his kindness and for his love for music. Oscar was a loving grandfather, father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, Felipe S. Mendoza and Emma Salinas Mendoza, and brother, Felipe S. Mendoza Jr.

He is survived by his love, soul mate and friend of 38 years, his loving wife, Dominga Padilla Mendoza of Alice; his children, Vanessa Mendoza (Adam Richardson) of Bay City, Texas, Oscar P. Mendoza (Hilary Rodriguez) and Omar (Nikki) Mendoza, both of Alice; four sisters, Dalia (Arturo) Alvarado of Waxahachie, Texas, Irma (Paul) Gonzales and Sylvia (Chris) Sinfuentes, both of Venus, Texas, and Emma (Tommy) Rios of Waxahachie; two brothers, Alvaro (Jovita) Mendoza of Brookville, Fla., and Leonel (Belen) Mendoza of Austin, Texas; a sister-in-law, Chelo Mendoza of Hebbronville; his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Rosalee Mendoza, Ebony and Ariel Garcia, Omar Roel Mendoza, John Mica Van Eric Gonzalez and Alexavier Richardson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., Monday, June 4, 2007 at Walker-Mora Funeral Home Chapel in Alice, Texas. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alice with burial to follow at New Collins Cemetery-Alice.
